Taking a law unit for the first time?

I have taught for some years now, law units to non law students. I am always met with the same lamentation - law is difficult - period.

Teaching and learning theorists will call this classical conditioning. A mind set prior to experiencing the unit for themselves. This adds up to becoming doubly difficult hurdle for the lecturer entasked to lecture the unit.

Reading is the key and most important concept a student has to appreciate. There is no way one is going to be able to get through the unit without reading. This reading coupled with an inquisitive mind will get the student far. No doubt some areas of law like Corporations Law could seem a little daunting given the sections and sub-sections to be understood, however, understand the principle behind the legislation, that would be able to assist in getting it entrenched in the memory for eternity.
